April 20, 2014 3:01 PM |

According to the latest weather update by Skymet Meteorological Division in India, weather in Delhi and most parts of North India is expected to turn dry from Sunday. The weather will last till the end of the so far cool and rainy month of April.

After witnessing a long spell of rain from the morning of 16th April, till the 18th of April, capital city Delhi turned extremely cool and pleasant on Sunday as both the maximum and minimum dropped by two to four notches. The maximum temperature recorded in Delhi on Saturday was 4 degrees below normal at 32.3⁰C. Whereas the morning minimum settled two degrees below normal at 19.2⁰C on Sunday.

“As the cyclonic circulation over Rajasthan has weakened, the weather in the plains of North India will now remain dry till the end of this month. However, light rain/snowfall in Jammu and Kashmir could continue as a result of passing Western Disturbances”, said Purushottam Lal of Skymet Meteorology Division.

“Mornings will be pleasant with minimums settling around 20⁰C. But afternoons will be warm and windy tomorrow with maximums settling between 35⁰C and 37⁰C for the next few days. Day temperatures could gradually rise to touch 40⁰C by April-end”, added Mr. Lal.

Meanwhile, the weather in South India will remain partly cloudy to cloudy with scattered rain in Kerala and isolated rain in south interior Karnantaka, Andhra Pradesh, and Tamil Nadu, for the next couple of days.

In the last 24 hours, rain occurred in many parts of peninsular India, namely: Alappuzha – 7 mm, Belgaum – 3 mm, Gulbarga – 8 mm, Ooty – 1 mm, Nizamabad – 7 mm and Ramagundum – 0.2 mm.

Confluence of winds from water bodies on the either side of peninsular India is leading to rainfall. Kerala will receive more rain than its other neighbouring states. So far in April, Thiruvanathapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode have recorded 52 mm, 30 mm and 94 mm of rain respectively.

The temperature profile in South India may show a little change in form of marginal rise in maximum temperature, which is expected to settle between 35⁰C and 38⁰C.
