Winters have already marked its arrival in parts of northwest India and this can be made out of the fact that most parts of northern plains including Delhi and NCR have already started witnessing cool morning and nights. The pollution levels that kept Delhiites away from their outdoor tasks for around 3-4 days has also given a brief that winters have started to stretch its leg over North India.

With this, many parts of Northwestern plains has even witnessed foggy mornings. States such as Punjab, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi and extreme North Madhya Pradesh have witnessed dense fog yesterday. Though the intensity of fog over these areas in the last 24 hours was still on the lower side as compared with the foggy weather that these regions have observed in the last 48 hours.

During the past day, the intensity of fog was dense to very dense over the stations such as Ludhiana, Shahjahanpur, Aligarh, Hardoi, Lucknow, Patiala, and Sri Ganganagar. However, the districts such as Bareilly, Agra, and Amritsar observed dense fog conditions.

While, moderate foggy conditions were observed over Delhi, Kanpur, Varanasi and in parts Imphal and Kailashahar. A few parts of Bihar also witnessed moderate fog.

As per Skymet Weather, the reason for the foggy weather over these aforesaid areas can be attributed to the declining minimum temperatures. In most of the parts, the minimums have been settling between 10 and 14 degrees Celsius. Moreover, the wind speed is also light in nature. These two weather systems have resulted in the fog occurrence over the aforesaid regions.

Further, fog conditions are expected to continue over these regions for the next two to three days. However, the intensity is likely to reduce. As for tomorrow, moderate with dense fog is likely to make an appearance at isolated places over Punjab, North Rajasthan, and East Uttar Pradesh. While shallow to moderate fog is likely to continue over Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh and parts of NMMT region (Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura).

Moreover, with the approach of a fresh Western Disturbance over the Western Himalayan region around November 13, the situation is likely to improve slightly. This Western Disturbance is expected to induce a cyclonic circulation that will result in light rains in parts of North India. Thus, the pollution levels and fog both will reduce in most parts of northwest plains.

However, parts of Northeast India will continue to witness foggy weather conditions.
