Foggy mornings expected over North India, relief in sight

January 30, 2017 4:53 PM | Skymet Weather Team

Today morning most areas of North India witnessed dense to very dense fog. The intensity of fog was so much that on NH27 in Rajasthan, multiple vehicles piled up, killing one. Many parts of Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan and even Uttar Pradesh witnessed similar foggy morning. The weather condition was similar yesterday morning as well.

This foggy weather persisted over the region because of the low wind speed. Post the rainy spell of January 26-27, Delhi, Rajasthan and parts of Haryana witnessed a spike in humidity levels. This humidity level mixed up with the cold temperatures formed fog over the region. The slow wind speed helped the fog to stay for such long hours.

But this foggy spell is likely to thin down as the wind has started to pick up pace. The blinding visibility due to fog over the northwest plains of India is very much likely to ease out. So for tomorrow morning, the visibility will be better than today but the weather will not clear up completely.

Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and West Uttar Pradesh will see a foggy morning but the visibility will be much better than today. But East Uttar Pradesh and parts of Bihar will witness the dense show of fog. This weather happening will ease out somewhere in mid-February.

It goes without saying that the fog will cause delays in flight and rails. Such weather has already claimed 3 lives in last 2 days in road accidents. Today morning 28 trains travelling to Delhi arrived late, 10 trains have been rescheduled and 1 cancelled due to fog. For few hours, landing operations at Delhi Airport were suspended due to dense fog.

Isolated places in Bangalore witnessed fog build up today morning. This happened due to localized weather activity. Such a weather buildup in the region dissipates in a matter of 30 to 45 minutes.
