Several parts of Punjab and Haryana continue to reel under the grip of cold day conditions for the fourth consecutive day. Few places of West Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh are also under its influence.
When maximum temperature is recorded below or equal to 16°C in plains, it is declared as cold day condition.
All these places have been recording day maximums way too below normal by at least four to five degrees. On Wednesday, Delhi recorded season’s lowest day temperature of 14.4°C.
According to Skymet Weather, cold and dry northwesterly winds are blowing over the entire northwestern plains. Moreover, persistent foggy conditions kept the sky obscured preventing sun to heat up the land.
Prior to this, cyclonic circulation had led to cloud cover over the region that did not let the maximum temperatures rise.
However at present, all the weather systems have moved away but fog is still persisting over the region though in lower intensity. However, upper haze is still obscuring the sky over Punjab and Haryana.
Gradually during next 24 hours, upper haze will also clear and sun will come up for a longer duration. This will lead to a marginal drop in minimum temperatures during next one or two days.
However, maximum temperatures will witness gradual rise by 1-3 degrees, leading to abatement of cold day conditions. But icy winds from snow-clad Himalayas will continue to keep the weather chilly.
