Foggy morning and chilly night on Lohri in Delhi, Amritsar

January 12, 2015 2:49 PM |

Lohri Residents of Delhi and Amritsar will have to sit close to bonfires on Tuesday night as they celebrate Lohri festival. With cold day and chilly night to persist, Lohri, followed by Makar Sankranti is expected to be celebrated amongst cold weather and light rain.

However, the light rain on 13th night and 14th morning over parts of Haryana and Punjab may lead to a marginal increase in night temperature but any respite from the cold weather.

Day temperatures have been below normal by 8°C-10°C in parts of Punjab, Delhi NCR and Haryana during last few days. Due to which cold day and unabated cold wave condition, leading to severely cold nights, have maintained its grip over cities like Amritsar, Karnal, Sirsa and other parts of North India.

While the maximum temperature in Amritsar is 7 degrees below normal at 11.9°C, it is below normal by 5 degrees at 16°C in Delhi. Maximums are below normal by 11 degrees in Chandigarh where day temperature is settled at 9.9°C.

Due to these low maximums, cold weather is expected to maintain its tight grip over parts of North India along with shallow fog.
