Foggy and chilly weather to continue to prevail over Jharkhand, Odisha and West Bengal

Due to the establishment of Northwesterly cool winds, temperatures have started falling over most parts of East India. Moreover, in the last 24 hours, the winds have intensified further and a major drop in temperatures has been observed significantly at many places. Most of Jharkhand, Gangetic West Bengal and adjoining North Odisha observed a fall in night temperatures by three to five degrees.

Dense fog was observed at some places over the Gangetic West Bengal, adjoining Jharkhand and Northwest Odisha today morning. Shallow to moderate fog was observed over rest parts of the states.

Presently, the minimums are below normal at many places. Some places in North Odisha, South Jharkhand and adjoining West Bengal are seeing significantly below normal temperatures. Most places are recording temperatures close to 6 to 10 degrees.

These northwesterly winds will continue to blow for next 24 to 48 hours. Thus, the minimums will continue to drop over the region.

Also, very cold morning is likely to be witnessed in multiple areas along the coast in Odisha and West Bengal. Places like Digha, Puri, Balasore, Paradip and Gopalpur will see such cold conditions.

Fog might continue to be witnessed in the morning hours. During the day, temperatures will remain below normal by 2 to 4 degrees over most parts due to cool winds effect. Sky will remain mainly sunny.

However, coastal stations of Odisha will remain comfortable while extreme South of Odisha may become partly cloudy sometimes. But dry weather will prevail.

Due to the approach of a Western Disturbance over Northwest Plains, the chilliness over the area is set to come down after 48 hours.
