After remaining widespread for last few days, engulfing parts of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, the thick cover of fog is expected to remain confined to parts of Punjab and Haryana for next couple of days. However, it will maintain its grip, not so tight, over other parts of North India including Delhi.
In last few days dense to shallow fog was observed in parts of Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. While Bhopal witnessed dense fog where visibility dropped to 100 meters, Indore 50 meters, Gaya 400 meters, parts of Uttar Pradesh witnessed shallow fog where visibility was confined to 800 - 600 meters that includes places such as Varanasi, Lucknow and Gorakpur.
Moderate to thick fog has affected daily life in parts of Punjab and Haryana on Thursday morning as it slowed road and railway traffic. People in Chandigarh are reeling under intense cold, while people in the neighbouring city of Shimla have given a warm welcome to the sun that has returned after a spell of heavy snowfall.
Due to dense fog, Chandigarh observed visibility dropping to 100 meters while Amritsar observed nil visibility on 18th December.
However, according to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, there will be some respite from the thick blanket of fog over the weekend.
