Fog to grip parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR for next few days

Northern Plains of India and Northeast India are adversely affected by fog during the winters. Fog is an after effect of rain, which occurs with the passage of Western Disturbances. After the rainy spell, when the sky clears up and temperatures drop, radiation fog occurs.

The coastal regions generally record advection fog as they are in close proximity to the water bodies. Advection fog travels with the winds. In the last 24 hours, radiation scattered dense fog was observed over some places in Northwest India.

In wake of the passage of Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir and its induced cyclonic circulation over Haryana, Jaipur observed cold day conditions as well dense fog conditions. The visibility levels dropped down to zero until morning hours. However, visibility levels increased to 700 meters around 11 am.

The state capital of Uttar Pradesh, Lucknow also observed shallow fog during the early morning hours.

Down south, Chennai observed advection fog where the visibility dropped to 100 meters in the morning. However, conditions improved gradually as the sun came up. In fact, along with fog, humidity level was also 100 percent in the city.

As per weather experts at Skymet Weather, northern plains of India including Punjab, Haryana, and Delhi-NCR would witness scattered to dense fog as rains have almost subsided from the plains. Northeastern states will also continue to observe foggy mornings.
