Fog relents in Delhi, continues to hit East India hard

Last day of the year brought huge relief for Delhites, as they witnessed clear weather conditions. After engulfing the city for past 4-5 days, fog gave a miss to Delhi on Wednesday morning. Almost all the locations including NCR region reported no fog.

While national capital escaped fog, poor visibility conditions in East India continued to disrupt normal life. Very dense to dense fog was witnessed across the region and adjoining east Uttar Pradesh.

To begin with, Allahabad, Varanasi and Lucknow reported nil visibility, while Gorakhpur and Patna observed visibility up to 100 meters. Gaya continues to witness dense fog, with visibility dropping to 400 meters.

Jaipur and Agra also reported shallow fog, with visibility of 500 meters and 600 meters, respectively.

Train and flight delays

Over 165 trains were reported to be running behind schedule, most of them are North and East bound trains. Some of the major trains like ANVT-JBN Superfast Express, plying between Delhi and Jogbani in Bihar is running late by 22 hours, New Delhi- Chennai Central by 20 hours, Magadh Express by 17 hours and Poorva Express by 16 hours.

Meanwhile, around 17 flights were cancelled, including 7 arrivals and 10 departures, and eight flights were delayed from Delhi, despite good visibility conditions at the airport.  Amritsar, Gorakhpur, Lucknow, Patna and Varanasi are some other airports experiencing major delays.
