Fog prevails in North and East India, rail and air traffic hit hard

Fog in IndiaNorth and East India continue to reel under foggy conditions due to which normal life has been disrupted. However the intensity of the fog has been varying from location to location.

Fog in North India

Dense fog has engulfed Delhi and NCR region on Sunday morning. Very dense fog was reported at Palam Airport as visibility dropped to nil. Dwarka, Lajpat Nagar, Faridabad, Indirapuram Noida Express also reported dense fog, while other locations observed shallow fog.

Similar scenario was witnessed in Amritsar and Agra, which also reported nil visibility. Meanwhile, Lucknow and Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh, which had been observing dense fog for the past few days, had fairly good visibility conditions at 1000 meters and 1400 meters, respectively.

Fog in East India

Most parts of East India reported shallow fog. Gorakhpur reported visibility of upto 500 meters and so did Siliguri. This was followed by Agartala and Gaya at 600 meters and Patna at 800 meters.

According to Skymet, shallow fog might be the result of change in wind pattern and humidity levels.

Train and Flight delays

Fog continues to hit rail and air traffic hard, leaving passengers standard at the airport ad railway stations for several hours.

On Sunday, 17 flights were reported to be delayed at Delhi airport, while 12 flights, including six departures and six arrivals were cancelled. Agra and Amritsar airport also reported major delays.

North and East India bound trains are the worst affected due to fog. 139 trains have been reported to be running behind schedule.  Some of the major trains that are late are Sachkhand Express (Amritsar-Nanded) which is running late by 18 hours, AP Express (Hyderabad-Delhi) by 17 hours, Goa Express (Nizamuddin-Vasco) by 11 hours, Purushottam Express (Delhi-Puri) by 16 hours, Azimabad Express (Patna-Ahmedabad) by 16 hours.
