Moderate to dense fog has been observed over various parts of Northwest India in the past few days. In some areas, the density of fog has been so high that the visibility dropped below 100 m. Haryana has also been witnessing foggy mornings.
Due to dense fog in Palwal, a district in Haryana, two passenger trains, including the Tilak Haridwar Express and a local train collided. The local train was travelling from Palwal to Ghaziabad. The incident took place today morning between Palwal-Asauti stations. The driver of the local train died at the moment while the assistant driver and a guard were severely injured. All the passengers of both the trains are safe.
In Uttar Pradesh, places including Varanasi and Allahabad also observed dense fog. Here also, the visibility dropped below 100 m and the sky remained obscured. Parts of Northeast India also observed shallow fog in some areas.
As the Western Disturbance is expected to move away by December 12, widespread smog will cover hills and plains of North India including Uttarakhand, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Delhi-NCR, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh. The visibility may reach below 100 m in some parts and major traffic disruptions can take place. Gradually, the density will increase with a further reduction in the visibility.
