Fog condition has been showing some improvement across North India. As have been reiterated by Skymet, thick fog was confined to only few pockets of North India. But parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were covered in a blanket of dense fog.
Fog in North India
Delhites heaved a sigh of relief on Satuday morning as most places witnessed good weather conditions. The lowest visibility reported at the Palam airport was 600 meters. With lowest visibility of 800 meters, Amritsar also witnessed shallow fog only. However, visibility reported at Jammu and Chandigarh was 100 meters and 300 meters, respectively.
Cold day conditions likely to prevail in most parts of Punjab, Haryana, Delhi and Uttar Pradesh. But temperatures will not dip further. In fact, it will rise after the spell of rain on January 13 or 14. Stronger easterly winds are expected to bring some improvement in the entire region and fog in Delhi will become shallow to moderate.
Fog in East India
Parts of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh witnessed dense fog. Visibility dropped to 50 meters in Lucknow and 300 meters in Allahabad. Gorakhpur observed visibility of 500 meters, while visibility in Agra was at 300 meters.
Flight and Train Delays
As the condition has improved at the Indira Gandhi International Airport, no major delays and cancellations were reported till 8 am on Saturday. At the departure, only 1 flight was cancelled and 11 flights were delayed.
Rail traffic has received a blow as 134 trains are behind schedule across the country. Some important trains that have been reported to be delayed are Purvottar Express running from New Delhi to Guwahati (delayed by 11 hours), Swatantrata Sainani Express running from New Delhi to Darbhanga (delayed by 13 hours) and Sampark Kranti from Delhi to Bhubaneshwar (delayed by 4 hours).
