Fog in Delhi and North India has cleared up to a large extent and conditions are not expected to worsen again for the next 48 hours. Air passengers heaved a sigh of relief as the number cancellations and series of delays has reduced significantly.
Fog in Delhi
Visibility conditions improved in Delhi, allowing for smooth air operations. General visibility has been affected but air operations were not hampered much. Today morning, the general visibility reported at Palam airport was about 500 meters while the runway visual range (RVR) was about a kilometre.
Till 9 a.m. only one flight to Chandigarh was cancelled. As the fog cover ebbed, the number of delays also reduced significantly with only 15 flights running late as compared to more than 50 in the last few days. However, the trains coming to Delhi are still running behind schedule.
The condition has improved in rest of northern plains as well. Fog has cleared to large extent and the general visibility at Amritsar was 400 meters and at Chandigarh 300 meters. Gaya and Patna was much better at 600 and 800 meters respectively. Visibility at Allahabad and Lucknow was lower at 100 and 200 meters, respectively. However, foggy weather still persists in Agra and Gwalior, where visibility remained nil in the morning hours.
With successive days of widespread fog in North India, the day temperatures have reduced significantly. The cold winds from the plains have now travelled to Central India engulfing parts of Madhya Pradesh, including Bhopal and Gwalior.
