Fog in Delhi tonight and Sunday morning, flight delays expected

January 4, 2014 4:09 PM |

Delhiites have been waking up to fog-free mornings but there will be fog tonight and there's high probability of dense fog on Sunday morning leading to flight delays. Today morning, the general visibility was good across North India and the lowest visibility recorded in Delhi was 400 meters. However, an anti-cyclonic circulation over South Delhi gave rise to haziness in the air. The circulation was formed by the meeting of two air masses. This smoggy weather in Delhi is expected to clear up within 24 hours.

Temperatures are showing an increasing trend in Delhi. The minimum temperature recorded at the Palam observatory on Saturday morning was 6.5°C whereas, Safdarjung recorded 6.4°C as the minimum.

In Patna and Lucknow the lowest visibility was 800 meters and 400 meters, respectively. Moderate to dense fog in the foothills of Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand and sub Himalayan West Bengal is likely to persist for the next 24 hours. Thereafter, the minimum temperatures, which are below normal at present, will increase by 2 to 4 degrees.

Today, cold wave conditions will prevail only at a few places over North Rajasthan and Haryana. Rain and snow is likely at scattered places over Jammu & Kashmir and North Himachal Pradesh but its intensity will increase after 24 hours. Arunachal Pradesh and Assam may receive light rain at few places. Northeast Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, east Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Jharkhand may receive light rain as well.
