Weather models at Skymet show that fog in Delhi and North India is likely to make a comeback from the first week of January 2014. The passage of the Western Disturbance, fall in temperatures, increase in moisture content in the air and a change in the wind pattern will prove to be the reasons for fog in pockets of Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Rajasthan.
“Fog in Delhi and parts of North India could occur from 2nd January onwards. Moreover, fog in Delhi and other major cities like Amritsar and Hissar, may not be widespread and could occur in isolated pockets only”, shared a meteorologist at Skymetweather.com
Weather in North India will not be foggy alone. Parts of East India, i.e. east U.P, north Bihar, northern parts of West Bengal, Assam and Arunachal Pradesh are expected to remain foggy at the start of the New Year. Dense to moderate fog which is maintaining in these parts is likely to continue for three to four days more and affect rail and air traffic here.
On the other hand tourists travelling to North India will not be hassled much as light fog in Delhi and Amritsar will not cause any air and rail delays. However, those planning a road trip for New Years could face some difficulty while driving due to fog in some pockets in the early morning hours.
