The shivering cold weather in the national capital Delhi and other parts of Northwest Plains today could make the day coldest of the season till now. The maximum temperature increased marginally on Thursday but lack of sunshine and chances of rain under cloudy conditions could pull down the maximum temperature by 2°C to 3°C during the next two days. Delhi has been experiencing cold conditions for the last few days as fog has led to drop in temperature since Tuesday, when the maximum settled at 22.1°C. The lowest maximum of this season is 15.9°C which was recorded on 22nd of December.
Meanwhile, nights in Delhi will relatively be comfortable as the minimum temperatures would remain marginally above normal during the next two days. Delhi recorded a minimum of 8 degrees on Friday but it may rise marginally during the next two days due to the absence of northerly winds.
Rain in Delhi may begin today evening onwards with one or two places receiving good showers during the next 24 hours. According to our forecast, the cyclonic circulation over Madhya Pradesh would work in tandem with the Western Disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir. Under the influence of the Western Disturbance, a trough which is extending from the Western Himalayan region to the northwest plains will be instrumental in giving rain in Delhi during this period. A trough is a region of intensified moist winds.
Cloudy sky and increase in wind speeds led to foggy conditions improving in Delhi today. The moist easterly winds picked up speed as clouds associated with the Western Disturbance arrived to restrict cold northerly winds.
