Most parts of the country witnessed fog on Sunday morning, however it varied in intensity from place to place.
Fog in North India
Amritsar, Jammu and Agra woke up to very dense fog, as the visibility in these cities dropped to nil. This was followed by Jaipur at 50 meters. Apart from these cities, other parts of the region reported dense to shallow fog.
Delhi reported shallow fog at Palam Airport at 500 meters, while Chandigarh reported good visibility conditions at 800 meters.
Fog in East India
Varanasi and Allahabad in Uttar Pradesh too reported zero visibility, followed by Gaya at 50 meters. Rest parts of the region reported shallow fog. Patna and Siliguri had fairly good visibility conditions at 800 meters, while Gorakhpur was even better at 1000.
Flight and train delays in India
About 96 trains have been affected due to poor visibility conditions across the country. Several trains to and from Patna Junction, Delhi, Allahabad and Varanasi have been running behind schedule. Some of the major trains affected are Avadh Express (Muzaffarpur-Bandra) delayed by 9 hours, Brahmaputra Mail (Delhi-Dibrugarh) by 10 hours, Chhattisgarh Express (Bilaspur-Amritsar) by 4 hours, Hirakund Exp (Visakhapatnam-Amritsar) by 8 hours and Northeast Express (New Delhi-Guwahati) by 11 hours.
As visibility conditions remained better, two flights from Delhi was cancelled, while 7 flights, including 5 departures and 2 arrivals were delayed. Amritsar, Jaipur, Agra and Varanasi also reported major delays.
