Even though people in Delhi and Uttar Pradesh are braving the cold with thick layers of woolens, their fitness regime and holiday plans are going for a toss due to dense fog. At 7 a.m. Palam recorded zero visibility while other parts of Delhi like Faridabad witnessed dense fog barring Model Town, Laxmi Nagar and Indirapuram. However, the fog cover hit the air and rail traffic leading to delay of 156 trains while leaving 26 flights running behind schedule.
Fog maintained its tight grip in parts of Punjab where Chandigarh witnessed zero visibility and Amritsar 50 meters. Agra had the visibility of 200 meters and Gwalior was reeling under the thick blanket of fog with zero visibility.
The city of Sangam, Allahabad, was free of fog as the visibility was 800 meters along with Gorakhpur and Varanasi witnessing similar condition. However, Imphal nestled in Manipur observed thick fog with only 100 meters visibility.
Fog hampers rail traffic across India
Nonetheless, rail traffic remains affected with over 150 trains being delayed across the country. A few trains running behind schedule include Magad Express late by 6 hours, Karnataka express – 6 hours, Sangam Express – 9 hours and Sealdah Rajdhani Express late by 17 hours.
Fog also hampered plans of flying out of Delhi as 25 flights were delayed while 13 departing flights were cancelled.
