Scattered rains occurred over Delhi and adjoining regions on December 11. December 13 onwards winds moderate northwesterly winds in the range of 15 to 20 kmph have been blowing over the region. Due to these cold and dry winds, the temperatures dropped and fog was not able to set in due to the high speed of winds.

However, in the last 24 hours, the wind speed has decreased significantly due to the approach of a fresh Western Disturbance over Jammu and Kashmir. As per Skymet Weather, during late night hours and early morning hour’s winds become calm to very light.

For the formation of fog, the three criteria’s such as low temperatures, high humidity, and light winds are necessary. Due to a significant decrease in the wind speed, these idle conditions for fog formation have occurred once again.

Moderate to shallow fog is likely in many parts of Punjab, Haryana, West Uttar Pradesh, and Delhi. At present, medium and high clouds are hovering over many parts of northwestern plains including Delhi, Haryana, North Rajasthan and West Uttar Pradesh.

With the cloud cover, the minimum temperatures have increased by 2°C to 3°C in last 24 hours. Now we expect minimums to remain stable, however, the maximum temperatures may fall marginally due to persistent cloud cover during the next 48 hours.

As per weathermen, rain is not expected over northern plains but isolated parts of North Punjab may receive light rain due to the Western Disturbance prevailing over Jammu and Kashmir.
