Fog and Pollution envelops Delhi and NCR, likely to continue

The winter chill has already stretched its leg in the national capital and its adjoining regions which is why Delhiites are almost daily waking up to foggy mornings. Today also, isolated parts of Delhi and NCR recorded shallow to moderate fog.

Moreover, rains have also remained on a lower side for Delhi and NCR. In fact, the capital of the country and its adjoining regions have remained dry for almost a month with only light rainy traces being recorded by the Safdarjung Observatory on December 12, while, Palam Observatory did not record any rains.

Out of the monthly mean of rainfall of 9.4 mm of rains, the Safdarjung Observatory had recorded just 8.1 mm of rains. On the other hand, Palam Observatory failed to record any traces of rains against its monthly target of 6.4 mm of rains.

As of now also, no major changes are anticipated in the weather conditions of Delhi and NCR and the national capital and its neighboring regions such as Noida, Gurugram, Faridabad, and Ghaziabad are expected to continue to witness fog during the early morning hours.

As per Skymet Weather, due to the presence of a cyclonic circulation over Northwest Uttar Pradesh. Moreover, a feeble Western Disturbance is also lying over the Western Himalayan region as an upper air cyclonic circulation.

On account of this weather system, light cold and moist laden winds are prevailing over Delhi and NCR. Hence, the weather conditions are favorable for the occurrence of moderate fog during the cold morning hours.

However, the day will remain pleasant and comfortable, but the pollution will remain under the ‘poor’ category. Haze layer will persist with few clouds during the day. Moreover, the daytime high is expected to remain between 21 and 23 degrees Celsius while the night temperatures will remain in the range of 7-8 degrees Celsius.

These weather conditions are expected to prevail for the next 2-3 days.
