Fluctuating temperatures to continue over Gujarat

January 22, 2018 10:51 PM | Skymet Weather Team

The state of Gujarat generally remains during the month of December as well as January. The state remains beyond the reach of the Western Disturbances and the induced cyclonic circulations which affect the Northern Plains and hills. Even if these systems affect these areas, only light rainfall is observed.

However, there is a large influence of these weather systems in terms of temperatures. In fact, the variation of these temperatures is linked with the passage of Western Disturbances in terms of wind pattern.

On very few occasions, these areas witness single digit minimums during the entire winter season. The state of the say varies from being pleasantly warm to hot with temperatures ranging between the mid 20’s and the mid 30’s.

For the past few days, the region has been witnessing large variation in terms of temperatures which are short in nature and significant in magnitude.

Currently, a Western Disturbance is approaching the hills of India. The system has resulted in an induced cyclonic circulation. With the arrival of the induced cyclonic circulation, minimum temperatures are expected to witness an increase and will settle between 13 and 17 degrees Celsius.

The wind pattern will change, and southwesterly winds will be blowing from the sea which will result in the coastal regions observing minimums between 15 and 20 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the day temperatures will remain close to 30 degrees.

The system is expected to clear of from the Northern Plains after 24 hours or so. Thus, again the reversal of winds will take place over the region and icy cold northerly winds will blow over the region and result in a drop of temperatures. During that time, minimums may drop in single digit in some places while other areas will see the night temperatures between 10 and 13 degrees Celsius.
