Floods wreck havoc in Assam and Arunachal Pradesh

Kaziranga National Park flooded 2The flood situation in Assam remains grim. The worst part is that Skymet Weather predicts more rains in the state during next few days. Sub-Himalayan West Bengal, Sikkim, Arunachal Pradesh and Assam have been witnessing incessant rains.

According to media reports, new areas have been inundated now in Assam. Heavy showers continued throughout Saturday. Thus, the total number of villages to be affected has now gone up to 500. Lakhs of people are reeling under flood across 13 districts in the state.

Thousands of hectares of crop land, public places, homes and roads have been inundated due to floods.

On Saturday, four roads were submerged in the Morigaon district. About half of the Kaziranga National Park in the Golaghat and Nagaon districts of the state of Assam have been affected by flood waters. The authorities in the national park have complained about the increasing water levels day by day. Relief camps have been set up in several districts across the state.

Several rivers are flowing above the danger mark in Arunachal Pradesh as well. The rising Noa-Dehing River has submerged the entire Lekang circle in Namsai district. The Piyong circle, Namsai Township and its adjoining villages have also been affected.

Jengthu River is also overflowing and have already washed away the villages of  Mukron, Chessing Nongtaw, Jenglai and Wagon-IV.
