Flood like situation in Kashmir due to heavy rains, Jhelum breaches bankThe state of Jammu and Kashmir region has been witnessing heavy to very heavy rains during the last 48 hours. A day before, Srinagar did witness record breaking rains of 83 mm. Not only this, snowfall was also recorded over the city along with adjoining areas.

Unfortunately, a flood like situation has occurred in the Kashmir valley as River Jhelum crossed the danger level mark. Not only this, several other water bodies that included streams, rivers as well as lakes were also swollen.

In fact, floods have already been declared in Srinagar where several areas have been witnessing severe waterlogging issues. Rain water have entered homes in areas including Jawahar Nagar, Batmaloo, Bemina and adjoining places.

Other low lying areas in the Kashmir Valley also saw water inundation in homes. The Indian Army, like always came to the rescue of the residents of Jammu and Kashmir. Schools and colleges in Srinagar and other areas of the Kashmir Valley have already been closed in view of inclement weather conditions.

Jhelum River yesterday was a metre above the danger level mark in parts of Jammu and Kashmir. As per reports, the Freozepur stream had breached the levels and thereafter entered a few villages in the nearby areas.

Relief and rescue operations are underway for the affected residents. As per weathermen, the situation is expected to improve in the next 18-24 hours as the Western Disturbance which was causing inclement weather over the region will move away and rainfall activity will take a backseat.
