Monsoon has been relatively generous in Gujarat this year, with the region experiencing an overall surplus of 2% rainfall between June 1 and August 23. While Saurashtra and Kutch have seen a significant surplus of 18%, the Gujarat region remains slightly deficient by 9%.

However, the weather pattern is set to change dramatically in the coming days. A cyclonic circulation over the Maharashtra coast and a low-pressure area moving towards Gujarat have already intensified rainfall activities across the state. Several districts in East Gujarat, including Ahmedabad, have already recorded heavy rainfall in the past 24 hours.

The low-pressure area is expected to intensify into a depression, leading to heavy to very heavy rainfall in most districts of Gujarat between August 24 and 27. There is a high likelihood of flash floods and waterlogging, which could disrupt normal daily life. Despite these inconveniences, the heavy rains will be beneficial for filling water reservoirs, which will support upcoming agricultural activities.

This weather system is likely to be the last major impact of the monsoon season in Gujarat for August. The monsoon typically begins withdrawing from the state around September 20 and is completely gone by September 30. Therefore, we can expect a few more heavy showers in Gujarat before the monsoon season officially ends.
