The state of Rajasthan is the least rainiest state during the Southwest Monsoon season. Talking about the divisions of the state, namely East and West Rajasthan, the latter records even lesser rains than the former.

Despite the fact that Monsoon made an early onset by almost a fortnight over the state, rains have remained almost nil in the month of June. However, the month of July made up for the dry days of June and the second half of July got some on and off showers over the state. Though in contrast with West Rajasthan, parts of East Rajasthan received more rains.

It is all due to the rains in July that both the regions of the state are rainfall surplus. As on July 16, East Rajasthan is rain surplus by 16%, meanwhile, rains in West Rajasthan are 11% in excess.

On the last day as well, the state as a whole recorded some scattered showers, with the spread being more over parts of East Rajasthan. In the last 24 hours, from 08:30 am on Monday, Alwar recorded 36 mm of rains, Bikaner 32 mm, Bundi 17 mm, Jaipur 16 mm, Kota 14 mm, Ajmer 12 mm, Udaipur 11 mm, Sawai Madhopur 4 mm, Sikar 3 mm, Jaisalmer 1 mm, and Chittorgarh recorded 1 mm of rains.

As per Skymet Weather, as of now also, parts of East and Southeast Rajasthan, districts like Udaipur, Kota, Pali, Chittorgarh, Bundi, Bhilwara, Jhalawar, and Banswada have to remain watchful for the next three to four days for some heavy to extremely heavy Monsoon rains.

Such heavy rains may force the water bodies and canals to swell, thus triggering local flooding or waterlogging in some areas. The possibilities of mudslides or slush cannot be ruled out as well. The situation can be chaotic as such heavy rains may cause disruption in communication and connectivity and thus, tourists are advised to halt their travel plan.

Meanwhile, stations like Jaipur, Alwar, and Ajmer are expected to receive some moderate showers for the next 48 hours. Henceforth, parts of West Rajasthan like Jaisalmer, Phalodi, and Barmer can also expect some good rains.

A well-marked low-pressure area can be marked over Chhattisgarh and adjoining East Madhya Pradesh. This system is likely to shift westwards towards Madhya Pradesh and then finally towards Rajasthan via Vidarbha.

Along with this, the axis of Monsoon trough is also running south of its normal position through Jaisalmer and Kota. Additional moisture supply from the Arabian Sea would also take place. All these systems would be responsible for such heavy rains over the state.
