Jammu and Kashmir have been experiencing flood conditions since the last two to three days. Heavy rains were affecting the region resulting in a closure of schools in many parts of the Kashmir Valley. The Jhelum River and other water bodies had crossed the danger level which is why flood water had inundated the homes of people living in low-lying areas.
However, the Western Disturbance which was causing severe weather over the state is now moving away. Thus, cloud cover has reduced from the region. The flood threat looming over the south Kashmir Valley and Srinagar are likely to end on Saturday by bringing some relief to the local population.
The Jhelum waters have started to recede bringing down the fear of floods. However, these calamities are going to have a lasting impact on the state's economy.
Damages to trade, hotels, restaurants, agriculture and handicraft are the first to be noticed, but heavy rains and unseasonal snowfall have completely destroyed the fruit crops in the Kashmir Valley.
Schools and colleges will remain closed until Sunday. While the western and the eastern parts of Jammu and Kashmir will continue to witness light to moderate rainfall during the next 24 hours, it won’t have a lasting impact on the state.
Similarly, few parts of Himachal Pradesh will also be receiving light rainfall or thunderstorms and then to reduce in the next 24 hours, but the weather will be dry and thereafter the conditions will be extremely pleasant.
