Southwest Monsoon has been lashing Rajasthan for the last few days. Heavy to moderate rains have been witnessed over the state. Few places have received extremely heavy rains as well.

During last 24 hours, Jodhpur received 172 mm of rainfall. This saga of heavy rains has been witnessed over the state since Sunday. On Monday, Chittorgarh received 259 mm of rainfall while Bikaner received 101 mm.

In a span of 24 hours, from 8.30 am on Tuesday, Barmer received 21 mm of rainfall and Ajmer 12 mm. Jalore also received heavy rains to the tune of 133 mm, Mount Abu 168 mm and Bundi recorded 40 mm of rainfall. Several districts have been flooded in the state. The worst affected regions include Chittorgarh and Bhilwara.

This spell of rainfall could be attributed to the low pressure area persisting over East Rajasthan and adjoining West Madhya Pradesh which now lies over North Rajasthan and adjoining areas, along with the associated upper air cyclonic circulation.

Moreover, the axis of the Monsoon trough at mean sea level is now passing through Bikaner, the centre of the low pressure area over northeast Rajasthan, Datiya, Daltonganj, centre of the depression over South Bangladesh and adjoining West Bengal and thence southeastwards to eastcentral Bay of Bengal.

East and North Rajasthan will continue to receive good rains. Rains will also increase in parts of Haryana. However, rainfall will reduce over western and southern parts of Rajasthan along with Gujarat.

Rajasthan is definitely the best performing region so far this Monsoon season. East Rajasthan has received 56% more rains than normal so far this season, while West Rajasthan has witnessed 13% more rains.
