The Southwest Monsoon has covered almost entire country barring Gujarat, Rajasthan and plains of North India. On Tuesday, it advanced over most parts of East Uttar Pradesh as well.
During last 48 hours, light to moderate rains have occurred at many places of central and eastern parts of Uttar Pradesh. It had increased in intensity during last 24 hours. Severe thundershowers and thunderstorm were reported over foothills of East Uttar Pradesh.
During last 24 hours, Varanasi received 61 mm of rain, Kanpur 36 mm, Banda 29 mm and Allahabad 25.3 mm of rainfall. According to media reports, about 40 people have been killed by lightning strikes in Uttar Pradesh on Tuesday.
Now, we can expect Monsoon to remain active over eastern parts of the state for another 2 to 3 days. During this time, heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is likely over East Uttar Pradesh and moderate over central parts of the state.
West Uttar Pradesh is still waiting for Monsoon to arrive but dust storm followed by thundershowers will continue over many parts of the region. Dust storm will reduce significantly and rains will continue for a prolonged period. Intensity of rain over West Uttar Pradesh will increase from June 26. We expect Monsoon to reach any time after June 26 over entire Uttar Pradesh.
A good rainy spell is expected over entire Uttar Pradesh during the coming week. This could lead to inundation of low-lying areas, possibly leading to flood alert.
