The state of Uttarakhand has been witnessing on and off Monsoon showers for quite some time now. These weather conditions have been attributed to the frequent appearance of Western disturbances as well as the axis of monsoon trough which has been shifting over the region.
During the last 24 hours also the region did witness a light to moderate rains with isolated heavy showers.
In a span of 24 hours from 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, Mussoorie recorded a whopping 90 mm of rain, Uttarkashi 34 mm, Pithoragarh 22.9 mm, Tehri 13.6 mm, Joshimath 16 mm, Dehradun 4.5 mm and Almora 2 mm.

As per weatherman at Skymet Weather, these Monsoon rains are expected to increase significantly during the next 24 hours.

In fact, with the forecast of heavy to very heavy rains, there may occur flash floods and landslides along with cloudbursts over many areas. Cities including Kedarnath, Badrinath Uttarkashi, Garhwal, Pithoragarh and Almora are expected to witness increment weather conditions.
These weather conditions will be attributed to the northward movement of the axis of the monsoon trough. Along with this a Western Disturbance which is currently over Afghanistan region is expected to shift towards the North Indian Hills and give heavy showers over these areas.
