From last many days, the eastern, along with adjoining central parts of the country, had been witnessing dense to very dense fog. Below normal day temperatures were also observed over these states.
As of now, dry and cold northwesterly winds have started blowing over these areas and this has led to a reduction in the fog intensity prevailing over these regions.
Although, now the fog has reduced but scattered light rain and thundershower activities are still expected in a few regions particularly including Northeast Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.
As per Skymet Weather, these rains can be attributed to the formation of an anti-cyclone over the Bay of Bengal. This has led to an increase in the moisture level over these areas thereby paving way for a confluence zone to develop.
Due to the meeting of opposite air masses, a confluence zone is developed over a particular area. Here too, both warm and humid southeasterly winds from the Bay of Bengal will meet dry and cold winds from the northwest that would lead to cloud formation, further giving scattered rains.
In a nutshell, it can be said that areas in Northeast Madhya Pradesh, North Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand are expected to witness first winter rains. Moreover, isolated showers are also likely to occur over South Bihar for next 24-48 hrs.
