Northeast India has been experiencing a continuous rainy spell for the last 2-3 days. In the span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Monday, Golaghat recorded 11 mm of rain, Pasighat 11 mm, Anni 7 mm of rain. Gangtok recorded light rain of 1.1 mm. Similarly, on January 3 and 4, Guwahati received 1 mm of rain, whereas Tezpur recorded 9 mm. Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh and Pasighat recorded 5.6 mm, 4 mm and 10.6 mm of rain, respectively. Imphal received moderate rain of 26 mm.
Day temperatures have shown a dip of two to three degrees, whereas minimum temperatures have also witnessed a drop. Northeast India during January enjoys pleasant weather conditions unlike North India, which reels under extremely cold weather. Usually, during this period, the region receives the least amount of rain as compared to the rest of the year. The average rainfall in the Northeast during the months of December and January is 10 mm.
Commencing tomorrow, the entire Northeast region will experience good weather conditions without any interruption of rain. The reason being the presence of low level Easterly winds which are an indicator of good weather. Also, clear skies along with good amount of sunshine is expected. However, the minimum temperatures are expected to show a dip and dropping to single digit at some places.
