Kolkata has been receiving good rains throughout the month of August. In fact, on and off rains have been lashing the City of Joy since the beginning of the month. Kolkata has also recorded rains over 50 mm on several occasions this month.
These rains were attributed to multiple weather systems which were developing in the Bay of Bengal. Now, the last 24 hours have also been good enough for Kolkata. In fact, widespread rainfall has been recorded over the city.
During the last 21 hours, Dum Dum observatory in Kolkata has recorded a whopping 100 mm of rainfall between 08:30 am on Sunday and 05:30 am today. Good rains have also been recorded over the Alipore observatory. Here, 39 mm of rainfall has been received during the same period.
These rains can be attributed to a fresh cyclonic circulation which has developed over Northeast Bay of Bengal and its adjoining areas. During the next 24 hours, under its influence, a low pressure area is expected to form over Northwest Bay of Bengal.
Good showers are expected to continue over Kolkata and the City of Joy is expected to receive moderate to heavy rains during the next 24 hours. Thus, it is safe to say that Kolkata will witness a rainy Independence Day.
