During the last 24 hours, scattered light to moderate rains and thundershower activities occurred over Jammu and Kashmir. Also, isolated snowfall activities have occurred over the upper reaches of the state. One or two areas in Himachal Pradesh also saw rains.

Now, we expect the rain activities to further increase due to a fresh Western Disturbance over hills of Western Himalayas. Fairly widespread rain and thundershower activities are possible over Jammu and Kashmir and adjoining places of Himachal Pradesh while scattered rains are possible over Uttarakhand in the next two to three days. We expect these rains to continue until November 8.

This is the first active Western Disturbance which has approached Jammu and Kashmir in the season. Thus, the first good snowfall of the season is all set to make an appearance over the hills. This snow will definitely help in bringing down the temperatures not just over hills but in the plains of Northwest India as well.

The Western Disturbance will move away from November 9. Icy cold winds from snow-clad mountains of Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh will reach over Punjab, Haryana, Delhi, North Rajasthan and parts of West Uttar Pradesh. We expect Winters to soon commence over Punjab, Haryana and parts of Rajasthan. Temperatures will also fall by 2 to 3 degrees over Delhi and NCR post November 8. So, these rains and snowfall activities will help in the setting of Winters over Northern Plains.

On a precautionary note, incidents of landslides and mudslides will swell due to rains in the hills. Thus, proper safety measures must be taken against any such difficulties.
