Rain will diminish during the next 24 hours before they pick up again due to the Monsoon system developing in the Arabian Sea.

According to latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India, here’s a look at the day wise advancement of the system-

7th June, the system over east central Arabian Sea will gain strength and will most likely develop into a well-marked low pressure area. Rain will increase across the west coast including Kerala and Karnataka.

8th June, the system will intensify into a depression and further into a deep depression by

9th June, the system will move closer to the Indian coast, directing the flow of moisture laden winds to the west coast and bring good amounts of Monsoon rain along the west coast extending up to Mumbai.

10th June, on the fourth day of its journey, the system might gain potential to intensify into a tropical cyclone and could become the first cyclone of the season.

The system will then have the tendency to shift away from the India coast towards Oman and gulf of Eden.

Effects of the system

Such Monsoon systems play a very crucial role, particularly during the initial days of the onset of Monsoon in India. Whether in the Arabian Sea or the South China Sea, the system mops up all the moisture and caries it away from the Indian coast. This system is outward bound and will reduce rain in South India. Such weather phenomenon takes away all the energy from the area, leaving a long gap before another system brews up. The effects of such systems can be offset only if there is a strong system in the Bay of Bengal.

On the other hand, systems that come up in the Bay of Bengal holds moisture and drifts them towards the eastern coast.

As said earlier by Skymet, Southwest Monsoon continues to bring rain in South India. Yesterday, rainfall also occurred at many places over Kerala and few places over Lakshadweep, Tamil Nadu and south interior Karnataka.

In a span of 24 hours from 8.30 am on Thursday, Bangalore received 70.6 mm of rain, Chitradurga 11.3 mm, Alappuzha, 28.5 mm, Kochi 17.9 mm, Kozhikode 7.6 mm and Punalur 6.8 mm.
