Monsoon 2016 had some sort of special aversion to the beautiful city of Nasik in June. Last month it almost didn’t rain in the city. Only light scattered rain occurred between June 19 and 21. Again light rain is going since the beginning of July, but during last 24 hours the city finally received its first good spell of 15 mm of rain.
Since today morning, only light rain has recorded over Nasik area and we expect that only light scattered rainfall will continue for another 2-3 days. The usual good spell of Monsoon rains are expected from July 7 onward. The shower intensity around that time will be moderate to heavy.
The light rain activity that occurred till now is not sufficient for the commencement for sowing Kharif crops. Farmers are waiting for good rains which will start next week.
Nasik is a major agricultural hub and a horticulture center. A long dry spell has an adverse effect on farming in the region as it is overcoming two consecutive years of drought.
