Delhi has been missing rainy spells for a long time now. While the neighbouring regions of Delhi recorded some rains around February 14, the national capital remained dry. Also, the recent rainfall activities over Punjab and Haryana were also a miss for Delhi and the NCR region.

The month of February has been on the warmer side. So far, both the Palam and Safdarjung observatories have recorded their average maximums till February 25 more than the normal levels. For instance, while the average of Safdarjung is 23.9 degrees Celsius and the temperatures were recorded at 26 degrees.

On the other hand, Palam observatory recorded its maximum at 26.4 degrees Celsius against its normal of 24.1 degrees. As far as daily maximums are concerned, both the observatories recorded maximums above the 30 degrees Celsius mark for four consecutive days. Between February 21 and 24, which is not a common occurrence for Delhi during this time.

In fact, in this period, the Palam observatory recorded a whopping 32.4 degrees Celsius which was the highest for the decade in February. A day before, some change in air was observed due to rainfall over neighbouring areas of Delhi and NCR.

Thus, both the observatories saw a marginal drop in maximums with which the day temperature at Palam settled at 29.6 degrees while Safdarjung saw the maximum at 29.4 degrees Celsius. Minimums have also witnessed a dip by two to three degrees due to these rains with Safdarjung recording the night temperature at 14.5 degrees and minimum settling at 13.6 degrees Celsius at Palam.

As per weathermen at Skymet Weather, no rainfall activity is expected over Delhi and the NCR region for the rest of the days in February which means this year will follow the same pattern as last February. Thin sheet of clouds are expected today, tomorrow as well as on February 28.

As far as the temperatures are concerned, no significant variation is likely. Now that northwesterly winds are blowing over the region, marginal drop may be seen further as well in terms of maximums.
