Fani impacts Delhi too, sends strong winds and spells of rain

Friday came as a relief for Delhi with some gusty winds and light rains witnessed during evening. This was a much-needed relief from the scorching heat and dry weather.

The maximum temperature on Friday had otherwise already touched 39.5°C which is one degree above the normal. Delhiites were suspecting the night temperatures to remain considerably high after such a hot day.

According to the weathermen at Skymet, these rains were due to a combination of Western Disturbance in the North along with the influence of Cyclone Fani in the East.

Fani sent easterly winds over Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Haryana and other parts of North India. This led to moisture incursion along with thunderstorm and rain in entire region including Delhi.

Rains and high surface winds led to an improvement in air quality index in Delhi. According to the data available with Skymet, Delhi’s air quality improved to ‘good’ compared to ‘moderate’ on Thursday. This may again deteriorate on Sunday but will remain somewhere close to the present levels.

This unannounced rain not only came as a relief but also brought in some fair share of difficulties with it. Traffic chaos in the form of jams, extended wait times in cabs were reported from the national capital Delhi.

Forecast

For the next two days dry and hot weather will prevail over Delhi and its adjoining areas. Mornings will be comfortable with temperatures being recorded close to 23°C. Weather will continue to remain windy for the next few days.

The next rainy spell seems far off for Delhi, as the next one week is going to be hot.
