Rain in Karnataka

Monsoon 2019 continues to be active along the parts of West Coast, particularly along Coastal Karnataka. However, rains have reduced over Kerala, but moderate to heavy lashed several parts of Coastal Karnataka and Konkan & Goa.

In fact, Honavar recorded extremely heavy rains to the tune of 121.5 mm in span of 24 hours from 8:30 am on Saturday. This was followed by Karwar that too saw heavy rains of 69 mm.

Well, this is not all, as we expect moderate to heavy rains to continue to drench several parts of Coastal Karnataka for another 2-3 days.

These ongoing rains are on account of a cyclonic circulation over Northeast Arabian Sea. Along with this, a convergence zone has also formed over the region. With both the systems, weather conditions would remain conducive for more rains Monsoon rains over the state. However, any flooding situation is completely ruled out.

Meanwhile, rains would be on downside for Kerala and we do not expect any surge in the rainfall anytime soon. Monsoon 2019 has entered into its last phase of September. So far, Coastal Karnataka has been experiencing normal Monsoon, with rains on the excess side by 13%. Form June 1 to August 31, Coastal Karnataka has recorded 3159.6 mm of rains against the normal of 2789.3 mm.

With more rains in offing, we expect surplus criteria to only move up.
