Extremely heavy rain expected in Himachal Pradesh

June 22, 2015 11:55 PM |

Shimla RainAccording to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, Himachal Pradesh is expected to receive extremely heavy rainfall on June 24 and June 25. There are multiple weather systems in the region that are currently active and will give very heavy rain in the state. For instance, a Western Disturbance is approaching the hilly region, while a cyclonic circulation is seen over parts of Central Pakistan and adjoining Punjab.

The weather system in the Arabian Sea is strengthening and moving closer to the coast due to which the winds are blowing from the sea across Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana. These winds are pumping a lot of moisture in to the region and are responsible for the recent bout of rain in these states.

According to weathermen at Skymet, these weather systems will act in tandem to give rain over Himachal Pradesh. We usually don’t experience so many weather systems acting together to give rain over a particular region. The entire state is a mountainous terrain which makes it more conducive to respond to weather activities and add on to the rainfall amounts.

Weathermen say that the June 24 and June 25 rainfall in the state could be of damaging proportion. There’s also threat of the catchment areas getting flooded. Such spell of heavy rain in the month of June is not a common feature. The average rainfall in Himachal Pradesh during the month of June is just 95.4 mm, which is far less than that observed in Uttarakhand.

During the Monsoon season, Uttarakhand receives the maximum amount of rain followed by Himachal Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.

Meanwhile, Uttarakhand and Jammu and Kashmir are also expected to receive heavy rain during this period (June 24 to June 25). Normal life could be severely impacted in these states as well.
