After North and Northwest India, cold day conditions have gripped some parts of Central India as well. The sky remained mainly obscured with an upper layer of fog over extreme northern parts of Madhya Pradesh during the last 24 hours.
Not only maximums, the night temperatures too have been touching lower degrees now. Due to the continuous flow of north/northwesterly cool winds, minimums have dropped significantly in Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh as well as the Vidarbha region.
The lowest minimum of the season so far across the entire Central India region has been recorded in Datia at 4.1 degrees Celcius, leading to the commencement of cold wave conditions, followed by Sheopur 5.4℃, Guna 5.6℃, Tikamgarh 6.4℃. Minimums in Bhopal have plunged to 8.2℃ during the last 24 hours, almost 3 notches below normal.
Not only Madhya Pradesh, the residents of North Chhattisgarh too woke up to a very cold morning with minimums slipping to 7.7℃ and 8.7℃ over Pendra Road and Ambikapur, respectively.
The night temperature in Gujarat is settling 2-3 degrees Celsius below the normal average. The coastal stations of the state such as Naliya and Deesa have hit the single-digit mark with 6.2℃ (6 degrees below normal) and 9.4℃ as minimums respectively. The day temperature has also declined by 4-5 degrees celsius from the average.
Dense fog has engulfed many parts of West Madhya Pradesh like Ratlam, Shajapur, Chhindwara, Rajgarh with the visibility dropping to 200-500 meters. Meanwhile, widespread mist and haze have covered the rest of Central India.
According to Skymet Weather, minimums will drop further in Central India during the next 24 to 48 hours, leading to the commencement of cold wave conditions in some more parts of the region. Winter chill will intensify and the layer of fog may spread up to a larger area.
