Extreme cold day condition in Uttar Pradesh to abate

January 15, 2015 5:47 PM |

cold wave Fog and low maximum temperatures in Uttar Pradesh have made life difficult for the people in the state, especially for the homeless and poor. Several places in the region are recording day temperatures below normal by 7- 8 degrees on an average. This has also narrowed down the diurnal variation (difference between minimum and maximum temperature) due to which the cold conditions have aggravated.

For instance, Agra recorded 13.7°C as the day temperature on Wednesday, which is 8 degrees below normal. Aligarh in west Uttar Pradesh saw the maximum settle at 11.6°C, which is also 8 degrees below the normal. And the diurnal variation was only 4°C. In Moradabad too, the maximum settled at 13.7°C, which is 8 degrees below normal.

Similarly, Varanasi in east Uttar Pradesh saw the day temperature settle 9 degrees below normal at 14°C on Wednesday. In Gorakhpur the conditions were a little better as the maximum temperature recorded in the city was 19.6°C, which is just 3 degrees below normal.

Adding to the misery are the cold winds from Himachal Pradesh and Uttarrakhand penetrating the region.

Fog, which has been a common phenomenon in the state this winter has also aggravated the difficulties. On Thursday morning, Lucknow, Varanasi and Gorakhpur recorded very dense fog, with visibility dropping to nil. However, the foothills like Moradabad and Bareilly saw a clear weather today.

These extreme day temperatures are likely to improve in next 24 hours as the skies clear up allowing ample sunshine.
