The state of Rajasthan has two sub-divisions, West and East Rajasthan and the variability in terms of rains is quite large over both these areas. Southwest Monsoon this year had advanced over its last post of Rajasthan 15 days before its usual arrival date.
In fact, Rajasthan on the whole has been performing quite well and has received 68 percent excess rains. Against its average of 44.5 mm of rains, Rajasthan has recorded 75 mm rains in the month of June.
During the month of July also, on and off rainfall activity has been witnessed over Rajasthan. Rains in Rajasthan occur either due to systems forming in Bay and moving towards the region or due to the effect of the Western Disturbance.
