Himachal Pradesh recorded 86 per cent more rain than the average while, Uttarakhand registered a whopping 209 per cent excess rain during the period from 13th to 19th February. However, Jammu & Kashmir remained deficient by -51 per cent as it recorded just 16.3 mm of rain and snow against the average of 33.5 mm in this period.

The Western Himalayan region has been witnessing cold and dry weather since the last week due to which the day temperatures in these states have been recording above normal. Srinagar, the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir recorded the maximum temperature at 13.4°C, four notches above normal on Thursday. In Himachal Pradesh, maximum temperature in the capital city Shimla settled at 15.4°C, 4°C above normal.
The Western Disturbance is approaching the Western Himalayan region and would arrive over Jammu & Kashmir by Friday night. The weather system will cause light to moderate snowfall at a few places in Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand. The lower reaches in these Himalayan states will also experience good amounts of rain during this period.
