Entire Maharashtra gears up for good Monsoon showers

Monsoon seems to be active over Maharashtra in view of a Monsoon system over Central India. At present the low pressure area is lying over west-central Bay of Bengal and adjoining  coastal areas of south Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh.

Marathwada is also gearing up for heavy rains. At present all the regions of Maharashtra are rain surplus except Marathwada which is deficient by 7%. During last few days, Vidarbha has been experiencing moderate to heavy showers due to the influence of the low pressure area over Coastal Andhra Pradesh and South Odisha.

During last 24 hours Brahmapuri received 81 mm of rainfall, Gondia 50 mm, Chandrapur 39 mm, Wardha 2.4 mm and Yevatmal 1.6 mm.

As the weather system is expected to move in a westerly direction, we expect moderate showers at many places and few heavy spells over Vidarbha. The rain belt will also cover Marathwada and Madhya Maharashtra.

For the next 48 hours, good spells of rainfall area expected over entire Maharashtra. Gradually, by September 15, rain intensity over Konkan and Goa will also increase significantly. By September 16, only north Coastal Konkan and Goa will get heavy to extremely heavy rains. But, intensity of rainfall over rest of Maharashtra will reduce significantly. These rains will help the water reservoirs of Maharashtra.

The next spell of rainfall will commence over the state by September 22, due to the formation of another weather system.
