In the eastern parts of India, particularly over Bihar, Jharkhand and Gangetic West Bengal, Monsoon showed up a bit late and was rather poor in June. The rainfall intensity was so subdued in June that the rainfall deficient settled between 20-30% in East India.
But in contrast, Monsoon in July has done fairly well so far. So much so that rainfall deficiency dropped to normal. As of now, the rainfall is 12% below normal for West Bengal, 11% below normal for the state of Jharkhand and 13% below normal for Bihar.
These figures came even after there were no good rains in the initial two days of July.
But fairly widespread rains lashed the entire East India and good rains were witnessed in last 3 days.
These good rains can be attributed to the well-marked low-pressure area over South Uttar Pradesh and North Madhya Pradesh that has now intensified into a depression.
Conditions are expected to remain conducive and scattered rainfall will persist over these areas. Foothills of Bihar will also see increased amounts of rains. Scattered rain and thundershowers can be witnessed over Gangetic West Bengal.
