A fresh cyclonic circulation is coming up over the foothills of Bihar and adjoining areas. There is a trough extending from this system across Jharkhand, Odisha and up to Chhattisgarh. The trough extending from the cyclonic circulation over Punjab and adjoining areas is also passing through the weather system over here.

Thus, multiple weather systems will bring pre-Monsoon activities in terms of rain and thundershowers in East India comprising of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha. Thundershowers are likely over this region, leading to relatively pleasant weather conditions.

In the month of April, entire East India witnessed heatwave conditions. So much so that, several cities in Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Odisha observed record-breaking maximums during the month of April. May had commenced on a better note with good rains in Entire East India.

The city of joy, Kolkata, was seen rejoicing after pre-Monsoon showers brought major relief from the scorching heat. Though rainfall was quite minimal (May 3 and trace on May 4) hailstorm and thundershowers brought down temperatures temporarily.

East India is generally prone to Nor’westers or Kal Baisakhi during the Pre-Monsoon season.

Thunder clouds are seen developing over the Chhotanagpur Plateau and are seen traveling up to Kolkata resulting in rains accompanied by strong winds over the area. However, these activities are highly localized in nature. We can expect some Kal Baisakhi during next few days as well.
