East India gearing up for fresh spell of widespread Monsoon rains

A fresh Monsoon system is brewing up in the Bay of Bengal. As of now, the weather system is lying as an upper air cyclonic circulation over Northwest Bay of Bengal and neighboring areas. It is likely to intensify into a low pressure area during next 48 hours.

Under its influence entire east India, comprising over West Bengal, Jharkhand and adjoining East Bihar will receive moderate to heavy showers. Odisha will also witness few good spells of rainfall during next 48 hours. In fact, rains have already started in this state.

Bihar has been rainfall deficient so far this season. Bihar has received 19% less rains than the normal average. Jharkhand is also rainfall deficient to the tune of 6%.

On the other hand, Monsoon has been extremely good in the adjoining state of West Bengal. In fact, this state has witnessed few very heavy spell of rainfall during the entire month of August. The state capital Kolkata has received more than double of its monthly mean rainfall. So far, the subdivision of Gangetic West Bengal witnessed 3% more rains than the normal average.

According to Skymet Weather, the low pressure area is likely to move in a north direction, towards Gangetic West Bengal. This weather system is likely to provide widespread moderate spell of rains at many places in East India with few heavy to very heavy rainy spells.
