The weather system which was providing widespread rain in the central parts of the country, is now affecting East India. The region is under the influence of a cyclonic circulation which is currently marked over Chhattisgarh and adjoining areas. Both maximum and minimum temperatures in the region are recording below normal.
States in the eastern part of the country had been receiving minimal rainfall since last two days. But in the last 24 hours, isolated light to moderate and heavy rain has been observed in the region. Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, and West Bengal have been affected by this weather activity.
In Chhattisgarh, Ambikapur received 25 mm rain and Jagdalpur received 5 mm rain. In Jharkhand, Ranchi received 6 mm rain. In Odisha, Bhawanipatna received 4 mm, Jharsuguda 10.4 mm, Koraput 41.4 mm, and Titlagarh recorded 17 mm rain. Also, in West Bengal, Krishnanagar received 16 mm rain.
Both minimum and maximum temperatures have taken a dip in these states. Jagdalpur in Chhattisgarh recorded a maximum temperature of 26.7°C on Monday and a minimum temperature of 16.9°C On Tuesday morning. While the maximum in the city was 11°C below normal, the minimum was 6°C below normal. Similarly in Jharkhand, Ranchi recorded a maximum of 31.8°C and a minimum of 18.9°C. The maximum here was 4°C below normal and the minimum in the city was 2°C below normal.
In Odisha’s Jharsuguda, maximum temperature (33.4°C) was 8°C below normal and the minimum temperature (19.4°C) was 5°C below normal. Titlagarh too recorded a maximum of 32°C (which is 10°C below normal) and a minimum of 19.5°C (which is 5°C below normal). Maximum temperature in West Bengal’s Krishnanagar was recorded at 32.4°C, which is 5°C below normal.
Rainfall over the region is expected to continue for the next 24 hours. It will reduce thereafter. However, temperatures will continue to remain below normal for a while. After a few days, both maximum and minimum temperatures in the region are expected to record close to normal.
