East India continues to battle heat wave; pre-monsoon rain continues in South India

May 21, 2014 3:48 PM |

Day temperatures continued to remain above normal by more than five degrees at many places in Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal and Jharkhand on Tuesday. The latest weather update by Skymet Meteorology Division in India rules out drop in day temperatures in these parts at least for the next three days.

Abatement of heat wave condition for the next three days looks bleak as westerly winds continue to penetrate under clear sky conditions. Heat wave like condition will also continue over some areas in Odisha.

However, an extended forecast by Skymet Meteorology Division in India indicates some respite from heat wave in these areas towards the weekend, under the influence of a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal. The westerly winds will be replaced by easterly winds which will pull down the temperatures.

The weather in North India will remain hot and dry. Temperatures are expected to remain around 40⁰C at most of the places in Delhi and its adjoining areas, for the next two days. A change in weather over northwest plains is expected towards the weekend due to the approach of a fresh Western Disturbance.

Rain will also continue in northeastern states due to a trough of low extending from the region to the centre of the weather system in eastcentral Bay of Bengal. The intensity of rain could pick up as the weekend approaches.

In South India, pre-monsoon rain will also continue over Kerala, interior Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu for the next 48 hours. The intensity will however, be less. The trough of low which is now extending from Central India to Lakshadweep across Telangana, interior Karantaka and Kerala will become less marked thus reducing the friction between dry and moist winds.
