East and Northeast India witness moderate rain

Rain in Gangtok Several places across East and Northeast India have been witnessing light to moderate rain during the last 24 hours and the wet spell is expected to continue for next day as well.

According to Skymet Meteorology Division in India, remnants of the Western Disturbance along with feeble cyclonic circulation and a feeble trough have caused weather activity over the region including parts of Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal and Northeastern states.

The system is presently moving across sub-Himalayan West Bengal extending up to Odisha region and shifting further eastwards.

In span of last 24 hours, Darjeeling recorded 29 mm of rain, Diga 16.8 mm, Kolkata 13 mm, Midnapore 9 mm and Asansol 8 mm. Similarly, Bokaro in Jharkhand recorded 7.8 mm of rain, Ranchi 5 mm and Daltonganj 3 mm. In Odisha, Balasore received 14 mm of rain and Jharsuguda 2 mm, while Gaya in Bihar recorded 3 mm of rain.

Meanwhile, northeast states of Assam, Sikkim and Arunachal witnessed good rainfall over isolated places. In Arunachal Pradesh, Pasighat received 31.2 mm of rain and Anni too recorded 28 mm. On the same lines, Mangan in Sikkim observed 24 mm, while Gangtok had 8.4 mm of rain. Dibrugarh and Jorhat in Assam registered 10.2 mm and 3 mm of rain, respectively.

As the system moves further, the rain belt will also shift its focus from east region towards northeastern parts of the country and adjoining parts of Bangladesh in next 24 hours. The system is expected to clear away in span of next 48 hours.

These systems after affecting weather over North India move eastwards and give short spells of rain over east and northeastern parts of the country. However, the major impact remains over northern parts only.
